In 2015 chemical gas attacks blamed by the West on Syrian President Bashar Assad, an international human rights organization, led by a former Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Marcello Ferrada de Noli, made the discovery the video was likely fraudulent, and that anti-government rebels had likely murdered a child in the process of making propaganda videos to frame Assad. The video was made by the now notorious, US and UK-back "White Helmets," who portray themselves as a civil defense squad which rescues civilians injured in government attacks.

However, the White Helmets were forced at least once to acknowledge a video was staged. The apology was covered by CNN and the video dubbed "The Mannequin Challenge."

In the Mannequin Challenge, White Helmet rescue workers can be seen posing frozen in place waiting for the camera to roll. The White Helmets called the making of the fraudulent video, in which the rescue victim was admitted to be an actor, "an error of judgment."

In video of the alleged 2015 gas attack in Sarmine, medical doctors both within the Swedish organization and other colleagues to whom the video was circulated all agreed that while purportedly administering an adrenaline injection into a baby's chest to restart the heart, the plunger of the syringe was never pushed and no medication was delivered. In fact what was apparent was a harmful scrambling of the chest cavity which likely killed the child, which the doctors opined was dying of a opiate overdose, not chemical weapon inhalation.

In Dr. Marcello Ferrada de Noli's human rights website, The Indicter, he states:

The new findings, which have also been confirmed in second-opinions issued by MD specialists and members of Swedish Doctors for Human Rights (SWEDHR) on March 12, 2017, a) demonstrate that the main highlighted ‘life-saving‘ procedure on the infant shown in the second video of the sequence was faked. Namely, no substance (e.g. adrenaline) was injected into the child while the ‘medic’ or doctor introduced the syringe-needle in a simulated intracardiac-injection manoeuvre [See video below with the findings’ synopsis]; b) may bring support to the hypothesis mentioned by doctors in the previous report, referring that the child in question, “if not already dead, might have died because the injection procedure”.

The White Helmets are funded by both the British Foreign Ministry and USAID. In October of 2016 British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said:

"I’m proud to say we’re giving them I think [US$39.78 million] funding as part of a wider [US$81 million package for a non-humanitarian aid,”

The White Helmets have been accused by Syrians interviewed by RT of pure theatrics, and of being indistinguishable from armed wings of al-Nusra and ISIS. In one RT video a woman says that when cameras gone, they "leave people in rubble" of Assad bombing attacks. The White Helmets sport matching logos and gear as a result of generous funding by the UK and the US.
