The Secretary of the Status Quo: Why Hillary Clinton Cannot Be Our Next President
Of Emails and Ethics
The mainstream media has finally caught up to the rest of us. It is now no longer a disputed fact that big-time Clinton Foundation donors received unprecedented access to the State Department while Mrs. Clinton was Secretary of State.
A batch of emails released last Monday made it crystal clear. The coziness between State and the Clinton Foundation reveals a troubling trend of money in politics. Do we really want someone who is beholden to those with big pockets versus the American people? Do we really want someone to be president who ignores a personal promise made to President Obama?
Clinton can no longer claim this is the doing of a right wing conspiracy.
The Washington Post reported on a few of these big money donors. Sports executive Casey Wasserman donated between $5 million and $10 million to the foundation, in addition to his investment company paying Bill Clinton $3.1 million in consulting fees in 2009 and 2010. Wasserman sought a visa for a soccer player from England with a criminal past but it was not granted.
The crown prince of Bahrain, Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa had given the Clintons more than $50,000 via the foundation. He then requested a last minute meeting with the madam secretary, which was granted.
Even Bono, lead singer of U2, asked for help from the State Department in broadcasting a live link from the International Space Station. State responded with, “No clue.”
The drip drip of damning emails has finally proven to the skeptics out there that Clinton Foundation donors got almost unfettered access to the State Department. While no pay for play has been proven yet, it could only be a matter of time.
And yet, Mrs. Clinton continues to lie to the American people, saying she has turned over all work-related emails and is fully cooperating with authorities. The FBI turned over about 15,000 other emails and documents to State that were discovered during the agency’s investigation of Clinton’s private server.
This kind of “pay-to-play” attitude is something that has been around in politics for some time. However, it still disgusts millions to see our highest political officeholders giving preference to donors over the people.
An explosive report came out from the Associated Press (no right wing organization) this week which states that over half of the people Mrs. Clinton met with while she was secretary of state, gave money to her, either personally or through the foundation somehow. The AP indicates that this fact indicates “possible ethics challenges if elected president.”
If the presidential election were held today, who would you vote for?
To The Highest Bidder
At least 85 of the 154 private individuals who met with or had phone conversations scheduled with Clinton while she led the State Department had donated to her family charity or pledged to donate to its programs, according to a review of State Department calendars released to the AP, a schedule they had to sue to obtain.
Combined, the 85 donors contributed as much as $156 million. At least 40 donated more than $100,000 each, and 20 gave more than $1 million.
Among the high rollers included a well-known economist who asked her for help with the Bangladesh government who was asking him to resign from a non-profit bank he ran. Another Wall Street executive sought Clinton’s help with a visa issue. Estee Lauder executives met with Clinton while they worked with her charity to counter “gender-based violence in South Africa.” Either way you slice it, Hillary Clinton proves once and for all that our politicians are for sale and will go to the highest bidder.
It’s ironic that the Democratic Party constantly rails against money in politics, yet its nominee for president is perhaps the most corrupt politician in history, taking in funds any way she can, refusing to follow any of the rules in place or remove any possible conflicts.
The foundation recently announced it would ban donations from foreign corporations and entities if Hillary is elected president. But if it would be a conflict of interest then, why wasn’t it when she was secretary of state?
David Harsanyl points out in The New York Post that Hillary “brazenly goes on Jimmy Kimmel to clown around about her “boring” emails.” If these emails are so boring and unimportant, then why does she keep hiding them from the Justice Department and why do more work-related emails keep coming out? Why the private server? Why lie to the American people?
So many questions, so few answers. It would help for Mrs. Clinton to clarify things if she would give a press conference. Yet, she refuses, not giving a real press conference in well over 200 days. If this is how her presidency will be, secretive and closed off, then good luck getting any straight answers out of her administration. Her dealings with foreign governments and individuals as secretary of state would be disqualifying during any other election cycle.
And instead of confronting the questions asked by reporters head on about the Clinton Foundation, supporters of Mrs. Clinton always deflect to the “good” that the they do. Bill Clinton defended the foundation recently, saying, "If there's something wrong with creating jobs and saving lives, I don't know what it is." Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook also defended Bill’s wife and questioned Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's own dealings, another savvy tactic to draw attention away from the real scandal. "We need to look more closely at Donald Trump," Mook said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
How about we take a closer look at Mrs. Clinton’s health records?
Clinton Can’t Shed Charges of Corruption
This general election so far has been one of a kind. From Trump slamming Clinton as a “world class liar” to Clinton accusing Trump of “outlandish lies,” our political discourse has sunk to a new low.
The billionaire businessman claimed, "She gets rich making you poor." This actually has some truth to it. Instead of working for the American people, she enriches herself through “public service.”
Trump did not cloak the views of his opponent, at one point calling calling Clinton the "most corrupt" person to ever run for president.
Instead of addressing Trump’s broadsides, Clinton’s campaign now appears to think that running out the clock until November 8th is a winning strategy.
With less than 70 days until the election and the continuing release of damning Clinton emails, the Democratic nominee is hoping her current lead will hold. Clinton’s belief that this email scandal is fake has entered into her strategy. She hopes the American people are as sick of her emails as she is.
Too bad they’re really sick of her.
Some Democrats, even some close Clinton allies, have started to warn her that she might be underestimating Trump and Republicans’ chances. The debates are still to come. The polls are already somewhat evening out nationally. Yet, the Clinton camp is unwilling to engage more in fending off the controversy seeping out of the email releases.
Are the emails hurting her? Without new information from the emails that would destroy her campaign and barring a dramatic jump in Trump’s numbers, Clinton’s team thinks they have this one in the bag. Responding to the email-linked inquiries would only draw more attention to it. So, they leave it alone.
It helps to have the media on your side though. Michael Snyder recently laid out some solid evidence that the media is not only biased against Trump, but supporting Hillary. Literally.
“If you go to just about any prominent mainstream news website on any particular day, it is inevitable that you will find an anti-Trump story on the main page right near the top, and it is usually accompanied by a pro-Clinton story nearby,” Snyder wrote. If you go to the cable news networks, there too you will find much anti-Trump programming. Snyder points out that it has been documented that “CNN has spent literally half their time on anti-Trump stories on certain days.”
Here is a small sampling of the obvious bias in today’s printed media:
- “Donald Trump is the most unpopular presidential candidate since the former head of the Ku Klux Klan”
- “The voters Trump drives from the GOP aren’t likely to return”
- “Clinton campaign manager: Trump may be Kremlin ‘puppet’”
- “Here are 13 examples of Donald Trump being racist
- “Trump’s toxic temperament should disqualify him from the presidency”
The Media and the Left: One Big, Happy Family
Still don’t think the Clinton has the media eating out of her hand? Here are a handful of big money donors to the Clinton campaign:
- Carlos Slim / Chairman & CEO of Telmex, largest New York Times shareholder
- James Murdoch / Chief Operating Officer of 21st Century Fox
- Newsmax Media / Florida-based conservative media network
- Thomson Reuters / Owner of the Reuters news service
- News Corporation Foundation / Philanthropic arm of former Fox News parent company
- Houghton Mifflin Harcourt / Publisher
- Richard Mellon Scaife / Owner of Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
- Hollywood Foreign Press Association / Presenters of the Golden Globe Awards
- Turner Broadcasting / Parent company of CNN
This inherent collusion between major media and the Democratic party has been the reality for some time. Trump has made clear his view of the Clintons and their supposed philanthropy. "It is now clear that the Clinton Foundation is the most corrupt enterprise in political history," Trump said in a statement recently. This has led to the Clintons announcing they would shut down the foundation if Hillary was elected president. Many friendly media outlets are calling for the organization to shut down immediately.
"It is impossible to figure out where the Clinton Foundation ends and the State Department begins," said Trump, adding that "The specific crimes committed to carry out that enterprise are too numerous to cover in this speech."
80% of Clinton's super PAC donations come from just 20 donors as of May 2016
The Status Quo Continues?
Trump's running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence echoed Trump's previous call for a special prosecutor to investigate possible corruption. "The fact Hillary Clinton's official schedule was full of meetings with Clinton Foundation donors is further evidence of the pay-to-play politics at her State Department. No one is above the law,” Pence said in a statement.
The Republican National Committee also cited the report to hit Clinton. "This is among the strongest and most unmistakable pieces of evidence of what we've long suspected: at Hillary Clinton's State Department, access to the most sensitive policy makers in U.S. diplomacy was for sale to the highest bidder," RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement. This much is finally becoming obvious to the rest of the major media companies, slow to sink their teeth into the very real scandal that is the Clinton email controversy.
In Pence’s vice presidential announcement speech, he called Clinton "the secretary of the status quo.” But she is much worse than that. She not only does not believe the laws apply to her, but she bends the law in order to enrich herself and her husband to a point that no other politician has ever reached.
While Hillary pretends to talk tough on big banks and billionaires gaming the system, she is rigging the system in her favor to ridiculous ends. Public service has paid off for the former first couple. According to Money Nation, Hillary’s net worth is over $31 million. Bill has an estimated net worth of $80 million, bringing their combined total to $111 million.
Electing Hillary Clinton president in November will continue the same old same old. Politicians will continue to get rich. Issues will remain unsolved. Divides will remain vast. Wars will start.
With Hillary in the White House, the people will lose and the status quo will win.
