Say Goodbye to Hollywood

Updated on September 25, 2017

Harlotte is at the Table

Good Morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Sunday, September 24, 2017. Our creative friend, Spider Harlotte, is at the breakfast table this morning. She has prepared Egg Nog French Toast for all of us. I have brewed plenty of Irish Coffees to keep us happy throughout the day. Harlotte has decided to turn her back on Hollywood. Actors are playing the part of politicians, comedians are not very funny and the View makes her sick. Please join Harlotte and me this morning so that we can try and make sense of the insanity that is sweeping the nation. Come as quickly as you can. I'll leave the door open.

I'm Confused!

It's Crazy!

Thanks so much for joining us this morning. I may be losing my mind, but since when does the average American get their political information from the entertainment industry? When did Jimmy Kimmel become "a think tank" when it comes to our healthcare coverage? Once upon a time actors acted, comedians cracked us up, dancers danced and talk show people talked about make-up and diets. Now Joy Behar tells Americans how to feel and what to think about important issues she knows nothing about. She lambasts our president and is beyond nasty when it comes to our beautiful and intelligent First Lady. Mean spirits abound and stupidity reigns supreme. Frankly, it is getting very difficult to navigate the strange waters that are flowing through our nation. Say the wrong thing and you might get banished from a restaurant, snubbed at a party or spit on by a close family member. I now understand the meaning of "it's a jungle out there."

Free Speech Comes With a Price

I get it, I really do. This is, or was, a free country. We are allowed to protest, smash windows, and impose our impossible viewpoints on other people. Liberals are now leftists, leftists are now anarchists, Democrats are leftist liberals, Republicans are not leftists, but they aren't normal either. Our institutions of higher learning are now merely institutions. Conservative students transfer out of a school like Boston University because of death threats. Oberlin students say that bad grades are getting in the way of their activism. Members of the Young Americans for Liberty at Kellogg Community College are arrested for handing out pocket copies of the Constitution. Princeton University's campus newspaper disbands their editorial board because they published too many right-leaning opinions. Yale has decided to get rid of the term "freshman" because it is too gender specific and the Emmy's seemed like a painful exercise in intolerance, bad jokes and stupidity.

My fear is that the misinformed, uninformed, misguided and ridiculous are now the epitome of sanity and intelligence. They act like they rule the world, and many Americans agree. Hard as it is to believe, Jimmy Kimmel has clout. If he says he knows what's in the healthcare bill than we had better believe him. He is the man, and clowns like Whoopi Goldberg, Rob Reiner and Joy Behar are part of an elite band of people with too much access to the airwaves. What they say matters, because what they say reaches way too many people. If I spout off, like I am doing now, a few people read it. Some like what I say, others don't, but my impact is that of a gnat on an elephant. Hollywood is filled with people who get a load of free press. They are not intellectuals, they are not privy to the workings of government, and they really don't know what they are talking about. That's the part that really stings. I believe Kimmel's heart was in the right place at the wrong time, but he wasn't in possession of the facts. That didn't stop him from opining, and it didn't stop all the flakes on social media from throwing themselves at his feet. I don't know what is happening in our nation, but maybe we should check the water for hallucinogens.

I Have an Idea

Let me throw this thought out for a moment. If our colleges started teaching instead of indoctrinating. fertile minds, we might produce a generation of adults who want to hear both sides of any issue. Instead of crawling into a fetal position when a conservative viewpoint comes their way, imagine what it would be like if they pondered what was being said. If we graduated people ready to function like responsible citizens, Hollywood might not have such a moldable and gullible audience to speak to. If we graduated people who made it through college in four years without coloring books, they might not find Joy Behar so smart. In the meantime, I'll just say good-bye to Hollywood.

Confuses the heck outta me, pop. Earlier, I did see your original response to my comment! How did it get tossed off? It's way or the other, we make the connection.

      Good Morning fp,

I answered your comment, but apparently I became a guest on my own blog, so it didn't post. In any case, you are my hero, or am I supposed to say heroine or am I supposed to say my favorite courageous person? The illness that is sweeping every corner of our nation is due to the absolute death of common sense. It's dead, dead dead! When I turn on the TV, it's the food channel for me. When the chefs start spouting off about politics, racism, white nationals and deplorables, I'll donate my flatscreen to charity. See you at the Inn.

OK.....I'm watching no news programs, avoiding SNL & Late night Talk Shows. I'll watch nothing that stars a growing number of Hollywood celebrities, most of whom I once really liked. I've never viewed any Christian Preacher Charlatan Programs, Sports make me break out in a rash...after years of parking my butt on the bleachers, watching GAMES of every sport known to man (4 sons-all athletes!)

So what's left? Game shows and commercials. YIPPEE

Might be the perfect time to cancel my cable and save some big bucks. Who'd have ever believed we might give up television due to a Political Tsunami?

( I hope Joy Behar has no children....they would cringe with total embarrassment.)

      Good Morning Will,

How right you are. Take small steps towards controlling people, and before they know it they are doomed without remembering how it happened. The dumbest people out there have the loudest voices, and that is very, very sad. See you at the Inn.

      Good Morning Jennifer,

Your kids will thank you for your views. As far as football and basketball is concerned, I doubt too many players have a clue about what they are protesting. If they have gripes, taking a knee does nothing but show disrespect for our nation. I have a novel idea, how about using your millions to actually help young black kids. Can you spell scholarships? See you at the Inn. Bring the Tees and we'll set them on fire!

Obamacare is a socialist dream...if the left can get Americans to accept government control of their healthcare, the next steps will be far easier. If they can also get Americans to accept the notion that they are causing the climate to change, then their control will be 100%.

A true fact. The world is going too mad. People do not have the freedom to do anything and still, they are blindly accepting whatever is thrust upon them. Goodbye to the Filmy World and Filmy Politics and every type of Restrictive, Insane Governance.

I know I say this way to often but I will say it again...Just when I think I must be crazy I read

your hub and feel like the world hasn't all gone mad. Thank you for always reminding me of that. I agree with you 100%!!!!

Insane the stuff that is going on. Say Goodbye to the Hollywood and the NFL/NBA.

I will be throwing my kids Lebron Shirts in the trash. The one thing I can do is teach my kids to be respectful. We may not all agree with eachother but be respectful.

      Good Morning Tom,

Well said! I should have added "Good-by to Football." In any case, enjoy the day and see you at the Inn later.

      Pop and Harlotte,

The Hollywood crowd was always slightly weird (serial marriages etc.) but they have taken it to a new level of absurdity. They have the freedom to speak their mind (I use the singular "mind" intentionally) but do not possess the discretion to EVER shut up!!!
