The Outcomes of Rapid Population Growth

The Issue

Population growth is major global issue, one example where it is a significant issue is Thailand. Population growth is the increasing amount of people within a country, county, state, or city. In Thailand, and everywhere else in the world, the overall population is increasing at such a rapid pace that we are not able to accommodate all the people living on Earth, which will result in various issues. The major population growth is more seen in Europe and around Europe rather than in Canada and United States, although this problem occurs in these countries as well, it is just not as significant. There are many reasons as to why population growth is considered to be an extreme issue that needs to be looked more closely upon.

So what will happen if population growth continues to be an issue? What are these horrible outcomes? For instance there will be:

  • Environmental Issues
  • Social Issues
  • Scarce Resources
  • Issues with Moral Decisions

I will go into each outcome in depth to show why population density is a significant problem with our generation. We can only hope that people will begin to understand this issue at a larger scale than it has been portrayed as.

Environmental Issues

One reason the population growth issue is a problem that needs to be maintained is the fact that because there are so many people, there will be more pollution and greenhouse gasses released. With all the people living on Earth the pollution levels will rise drastically when it comes to air pollution and water pollution because more and more people will be littering and creating greenhouse gasses. Factories will continue to grow because they will have to open new factories to build more products to accommodate for all of the people living on Earth, resulting in more air pollution and more items to be thrown away when people are through with using them. There is not enough space on the planet to deal with all of the garbage that people have and our planet will start to become destroyed by all of it. The ozone layer will not be able to handle all of the air pollution and will become more damaged, causing global warming rates to rise which will eventually create more climate change issues. The climate change issues will consist of longer dry periods, heavier downpours, more extreme weather to emerge such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and even earthquakes

Social Issues

Since the population is growing at an unnecessary rate another problem people will face is finding room to accommodate for everyone. Having so many people on the planet will make it hard for countries to be able to have suitable living areas for everyone. Countries have to start building around all of the people to try to accommodate everybody. Finding jobs for everyone will become hard (harder than it already has become) because there will be too many people and not enough jobs for every single person in a country as well. This is essentially because technology has replaced many jobs that labourers used to have to do. Basically, the issue of a growing population will affect everyone in every country when it comes to what everyone needs in order to live.

Scarce Resources

One reason this issue needs more attention from people around the world is that if the population growth does not become maintained then safe drinking water will become scarce. Having so many people living makes the only clean water scarce for people to have and there will not be enough to accommodate all of the people living. Although people need water to survive, Earth will not only be lacking safe water but many other resources such as fossil fuels. Water is already considered scarce in many countries such as Africa where people barely survive off of the little water they have. Imagine when there is hardly any water in more parts of the world other than places like Africa. How will everyone survive when water is the most basic necessity?

Mortality with Thailand as an Example

Within Thailand specifically the population growth rate is 0.543%. In Thailand, they have a rate of 12.81 births/ 1000 people and a death rate of 7.38/1000 of the population. This means that there are more people being born than people passing away in the country. If this continues to happen then all of these issues will begin to rise in the country because there are more people being born than people passing away. The population will be so significantly high that there will be more homeless people and children living on the streets. People will do whatever they can to make ends meet and for some they will not achieve any way of survival. This may result in the death rate being raised because people will be dying on the streets or starving. Some may argue that the issue will resolve on its own because all of these problems, that will eventually kill off the population. Is that morally correct though? Instead of allowing people to die off to fix this issue, why not try to do something about it before the death rates become just as prosperous.

What Can We Do?

There are many ways we can learn to try and control population growth to keep a sustainable environment for future generations to come. One way would be for the government to step in. Although many people do not like the idea of having laws on how many children a family can have, it is a good solution to control the issue. If the government stated the problem of population growth and tried to guide people in a way that would help families control how many children are born then there is one way people can begin to control population growth. Another way to help reduce the issue of population growth is to begin educating children at a young age about the issue and its effects on the future planet so that people grow up to understand and hopefully families would not be as large and birth rates reduced. These are only a few ideas of different ways to prevent the issue of population growth globally so that our future planet is a suitable living place for people of the future. There is no easy route to take to confront this issue and try to prevent it, especially when it is a problem that happens world wide. We can only hope that we have enough resources across the globe to ensure the survival of every human being that is living on this planet. Although we will never be able to solve all of the worlds problems, we certainly can take small steps to address each one in a different way so to reduce the impact they may leave on different parts of the world. Living in the West most of us are so privileged that we would not give a single thought about these issues that occur in other parts of the world because they do not always address us. If people begin to show care towards the rest of the world then we can begin to take these small steps.

How Should We Go About This Problem?
