Who Killed Sarah E. Neal?

I am passionate about missing persons cases due to a personal family experience of having someone go missing in my family.

Sarah Neal

Background

Sarah E. Neal was born on July 22, 1988 to her mother Nancy (aka Nan), and her father. She loved to write poetry and draw, she was a promising student. In the fall after her death she would have been a senior at Omaha North High School. She played sports such as softball, basketball and even ran track. Through her poetry, her mother discovered she may have been sexually abused at just 6 years old, leading her to make some bad life choices and hide the pain from everyone. She would befriend people who were bad influences and would date older men. Besides that, she was a great person who always wanted to be the center of attention and always had to make everybody laugh. She was known to close friends and family as the Queen of Comedy.

Murder

On June 21, 2005, Sarah’s father found her shot dead in the kitchen of the family home. The family home was on N 54th Circle, Omaha, NE. She was just 16 years old. It’s not clear if the doors were locked or not and it’s unconfirmed if there was any forced entry, but police suspect foul play and think it was someone she knew.

Cletus Alford

Cletus Alford, who was 28 at the time, was dating 16-year-old Sarah. He has been arrested on child pornography charges after he took nude photos and videos of Sarah. He has several reports of domestic abuse and other violent charges against him from other ex-girlfriends. His history consists of abusing and stalking young girls. One time when he got upset with Sarah, her parents reported that he had slashed the tires on her Mustang and broke out the windshield. This isn’t the first incident reported to police of him destroying a girlfriend or ex-girlfriends vehicle.

One young girl who wishes to remain anonymous said Cletus at one time threatened to kill her. She said he threw a large rock through her grandmother's apartment window, bouncing off her bed and making a hole in the wall. He had slashed her car’s tires, busted the windshield, shredded the interior, and broke off the leavers on the steering wheel.

As of 2010, he was facing charges of child pornography, violating protection orders, obstructing police, and disturbing the peace. Detectives say his violent history is not enough to charge him with the murder of Sarah but he is a person of interest although he refuses to be interviewed.

As of May 10, 2010, Cletus Janel Alford was charged with child pornography.

2015 Update

In August of 2015, a new detective was put on the Neal case. Detective Dave Schneider says he’s hopeful in solving this case. He said although it’s been a decade since she was murdered, several new leads came in just a few weeks ago. He’s hoping that, with time, the killer or killers got comfortable and let it slip or confessed to someone about the murder or what happened that day.

He said he has a few new leads but won’t elaborate on them further to keep the integrity of the case. He spoke with Nan Neal, Sarah’s mother, and they are both hopeful they will find something soon and get justice for her daughter and closure for the family. Nan said she’s scared that the killer could still be out there and she doesn't want them to destroy more families as he did with theirs.
