The Incident

On April 20, 2019, Sunny and a male acquaintance named Cliff Coates, had planned on taking a day trip from Trenton, Nebraska to Omaha, Nebraska to pick up Cliff’s niece. The trip was about 300 miles away and while Sunny didn’t own a cell phone at the time, she borrowed one from someone while in Holdrege, Nebraska to call her mother at around 1 pm. She told her everything was going well and she would see her later that night when they got back to Trenton.

Several hours later, Cliff called Sunny’s mother between 9 pm and midnight to tell her they had stopped at the Prairie Flower Casino in Carter Lake, Iowa and because she was only 18, she had to wait in the truck. He told her mother when he came back out about three hours later, Sunny was gone. He said he looked for her but couldn’t find her so he left the area.

Later on, he changed his story and said Sunny disappeared while they stopped at a gas station in Omaha. He said he ran in to pay for gas and when he came back out she was gone. Both times he told his story he never mentioned calling the police or notifying any authority about her missing.

The Investigation

Sunny’s mother, Paula, called the police the next morning to tell them her daughter was missing. She called the Hitchcock County Sheriff’s office and told them what had happened. The police searched for the Sunny in the areas around Omaha and Iowa and found the white Ford. They found and arrested Cliff on unrelated charges later on.

The case is still open and the search is ongoing though they have very few leads. Police have not yet come forward with an official suspect though many people believe Cliff had something to do with Sunny’s disappearance.

The Male Acquaintance

His full name is Floyd Clifford Coats Jr and, while it’s unknown what relationship he had with Sunny, it’s known he had a long criminal record. In Kansas and Nebraska, he has criminal records for the sale and possession of drugs, theft, false imprisonment, possession of a deadly weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon.

His family continues to claim he had nothing to do with Sunny's disappearance, however, Sunny's family believes he could have something to do with it. One theory online is that due to Cliff's unsavory past, some people believe he might have sold her into trafficking or something happened to her and he dumped her body. These are just theories and none of it is fact.

I think that Cliff has something to do with it or rather should be so instrumental in helping out with the case. His attitude towards find her could tell if he's honest. Hoping that the girl will be found safe
