Details

Chelsea is of Hispanic descent with brown hair and brown eyes, though she had blond tips when she went missing. She is about 5’5 and weighs between 150 and 170 pounds. She has a left lazy eye, left nose piercing, and piercings on both ear lobes and cartilage. She also has a tattoo on her front left hip that says “I fly with my own wings.” and stretch marks on her abdominal area from a past pregnancy. She also wears black thick rimmed glasses. She went missing from Brooklyn, New York and was last seen wearing a New York Yankees jacket that has a blue chest and gray sleeves. She was also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black blouse, gray sweatpants with a white stripe down the leg, and chestnut colored Uggs. She was also wearing a silver necklace with a silver Italian horn on it, a silver ring with a sideways Roman Catholic cross, and carried a small black Coach shoulder bag and had several cloth bags with her.

Chelsea has medical conditions indicating she may be in need of medical attention. She has bipolar depression, borderline personality disorder, and a history of substance abuse. She was recently in the hospital before her disappearance.

Background

Chelsea was born on November 8th, 1993 but her mother was unable to care for her so she was legally adopted by her aunt Rose. She still had a very close relationship with her biological mother up until she passed away in March 2016 of kidney failure. Chelsea herself is a mother to a little boy who was just 10 months old when she disappeared. He was the highlight of her life and she loved him more than anything else.

Rose said Chelsea was so depressed after her mother passed away that she checked herself into the Coney Island Psychiatric Hospital. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks and during that time became close friends with her female roommate. It’s been seen in a few sources that her name was Sabrine but this has not been confirmed by police. Sabrine had a frequent male visitor named Justice that Chelsea also became close with. After her treatment was done, Chelsea who was usually a homebody, started to go out more with these new friends. Rose at first thought this was a good thing that she had some new friends that were getting her out of the house and distracting her from her grief and pain but that wasn’t the case. It was soon thought these new friends had gotten Chelsea into drugs. Rose said Chelsea never had a problem with drugs before she came out of the hospital, and that she was like a completely different person.

Attacked

On April 26th, 2016 Chelsea came home in the early morning hours after being out with friends. She came home disoriented with bruises all over her arms, so Rose took her to the hospital. The only thing confirmed by police is that Chelsea had opiates in her system but other sources say she also had a rape kit done and it was found she had been drugged, robbed, and sexually assaulted that night. After Chelsea was coherent she said she didn’t remember anything of the night of the attack. She didn’t remember who she was with or what had happened that night.

The Incident

On May 6th Chelsea confided in her aunt that she needed help with drug addiction and wanted to be checked into a drug rehabilitation center. Rose agreed she would help her and drove her to Lutheran Hospital in Sunset Park New York. There the plan was she would be transferred from this facility to st. Johns Riverside Center in Yonkers New York. This trip was a little over an hour long and the whole van ride Chelsea was on social media and texting her friends supposedly asking for drugs. She had contacted her former roommate asking about them and got the response “Listen my boys got dope, let's pick you up we got everything.”

When Chelsea got to the rehab center she immediately checked herself out and asked to be picked up. She texted her aunt saying she was going to find a different rehab center and that was why she left this one. Her friend Justice was the one to come and pick her up from Yonkers and drove her back to Brooklyn and he said he dropped her off at 68th and Sunset Park around 11:30 pm. This has only been confirmed by Rose, not the police.

At around 1:45 am a friend said they saw Chelsea leaving the La Florita Club at 5th avenue and Sunset Park but once again, nothing has been confirmed by police. Chelsea was a regular at this club, however, and a lot of the staff knew her and willingly talked to the police about her. They said she preferred the corner table and would often sit and talk with the DJ. On the night she was seen leaving, she was seen with a man named Antonio. Nobody is sure if this was the DJ she would talk to, or if it was someone else but it has been confirmed that this Antonio character knew Justice. This was the last time anybody saw her.

Theories

Rose firmly believes her adopted daughter was forced into sex trafficking either by these new friends that got her hooked on drugs or other people who saw she was vulnerable. Chelsea was in a very vulnerable state of mind, grieving her mother's death and being newly addicted to drugs she would have been an easy target for traffickers.

Rose hired a private investigator, Sean Crowley, to look for Chelsea. He has been looking into the trafficking theory and even asked a sex worker about her. She identified Chelsea through a photograph and said she had seen her walking the streets around Coney Island. It’s a strong possibility she is being drugged and held against her will somewhere in New York.

Other theories are that because she was so depressed, stressed, and under the influence that she may have killed herself to escape from the pain. It’s also possible she could have overdosed somewhere alone or with friends who panicked and hid her body somewhere.

Others think she may have had enough and just ran away from her life to start a new one. The stress and grief of losing her mother might have been too much for her. The police haven’t told the public very much about this investigation so a lot of the theories and information online is just speculation and people’s ideas of what could have happened to her.
