In this day and age, where the American Flag is made into everything from handkerchiefs, tablecloths, swim suits, costumes, napkins, socks, backpacks, and underwear, people got in an uproar because some NFL players decided to kneel during the playing of the National Anthem before the game in a silent and peaceful protest.

Mr. Hansen Unplugged...

Now the NFL players were not protesting the American Flag itself; they just decided to follow in the footsteps of free agent Colin Kaepernick by using this stage in order to bring attention to their cause. Like Colin, they are protesting all of the police brutality and misconduct against minorities and all of the other injustices that have been thrust upon minorities since the creation of these United States.

President Donald Trump responded to their efforts by attacking the players, calling them SOBs, and running to Twitter to tell his followers to boycott the NFL. Even though many football game spectators did not and do not stand during the National Anthem, people are outraged that these mostly minority players have decided that they have to do something to get attention to their cause because every other attempt falls on deaf ears.

In the past, many players were not even on the field of play during the National Anthem and nobody even noticed. Were these players considered "unpatriotic" and disrespectful to the American Flag by the masses?

Please Answer Honestly

The only difference is that both white players and minority players were the guilty ones. But nobody cared. So why is there such a heightened sense of "patriotism" now that the vision of minorities acting alone in defiance has graced tv screens and stadiums all over the country? Do they not have a right to address their grievances peacefully? After all there have been numerous cases of police officers brutally violating the rights of minorities and some even killing them with very little to no retribution. And just how much disrespect, if any, is it when they take a knee or stand together with their arms locked? I mean they are facing the flag and the music during the National Anthem; some of them are just not standing. Is it because they are not doing what they are told like back in the good old days? Or is it simply because people do not want the topic of racial injustice highlighted?

The First Amendment clearly states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” There is no mention about not being able to peacefully assemble during the National Anthem. Does this Amendment include everyone except minorities? GOD bless America!

Please take the time to leave a comment with your viewpoints on this peaceful protest. Thank you!
